Biography

My name is Kobi Lane, and I am in my penultimate year of Urban & Environmental Planning (Honours) in the Griffith School of Environment, and president of PEGS (Planning & Environmental Griffith Students) at Griffith University.

I am currently completing a Honours dissertation component of my degree entitled: ‘The Awareness of Depressogenic Built Environments in South East Queensland’. My research seeks to validate the symbiotic relationship between the built environment and the effect it has on people's mental health, and whether planners are aware of this complex relationship. Through my research, I have been fortunate enough to co-presented an ABC Radio ‘Urban Squeeze’ segment alongside Griffith School of Environment Associate Professor Jason Byrne.

External to my university studies, I participated in a social research experiment co-ordinated by QUT and the London School of Economics. In this setting, I led a group of researchers into West End to transform a space using light as a material to best reflect the community’s values.

I am also a Planning Institute of Australia student member and committee member with Queensland Young Planners.
